Причем предпочитали новых знакомых старым и старались теснее контактировать с особями противоположного пола. Самым распространенным способом наладить связь друг с другом оказался груминг.

«Мы ожидали, что обезьяны будут строить более тесные отношения с ближайшими сородичами, чтобы справиться с последствиями урагана, — рассказала Лорен Брент, соавтор статьи. — Вместо этого макаки начали расширять круг знакомств и делить ресурсы и территорию с бывшими конкурентами.

В то же время биологи обнаружили, что макаки, предпочитавшие уединение до катастрофы, после нее остались одиночками и реже взаимодействовали с сородичами.

Ученые добавили, что поведение животных оказалось похоже на человеческое. Чтобы восстановиться после стихийного бедствия, приматы старались добиться поддержи от как можно большего числа сородичей, а не фокусироваться на укреплении отношений с ближайшими членами группы.

Результаты работы в Пуэрто-Рико помогают ответить на вопрос о том, какие преимущества дает общение. Далее ученые собираются исследовать, какие долгосрочные последствия влекут за собой новые социальные связи, а также понять неспособность установить их в экстремальных условиях.
