Космический аппарат предназначен для лазерной ретрансляции данных в гражданских и военных целях.
Японская ракета-носитель H-IIA со спутником JDRS-1, предназначенным для высокоскоростной передачи данных, стартовала с космодрома на острове Танэгасима. Запуск в прямом эфире транслировало Японское агентство аэрокосмических исследований (JAXA) в воскресенье, 29 ноября.
Космический аппарат предназначен для лазерной ретрансляции данных в гражданских и военных целях. В частности, спутник будет взаимодействовать с разведывательными аппаратами IGS-Optical и IGS-Radar.
В плане гражданских задач спутник должен будет обеспечивать ретрансляцию сигналов между космическими аппаратами агентства JAXA, находящимися на низкой околоземной орбите, и наземными станциями космической связи.
Указывается, что этот новый спутник способен передавать данные в семь раз быстрее обычных, работая в среднем около девяти часов в сутки.
